When someone sent these photos in, I saw the first one and thought it was going to be someone asking us to help promote their book.
I’m glad I kept looking because it turned out to be an awesome surprise located in Istanbul, Turkey. Check out this architectural creativity. I love it.
This is not a book. At least not the normal kind.
It’s actually a bench in Istanbul.
These benches are all over the city: parks, bus stops, streets, and squares.
Reading an actual book while sitting on a book bench with this view would be perfect.
Even better, each bench is based on the works of one of 18 classic Turkish authors.
And they’re ‘opened’ to the most memorable page in the book.
The city put these Book Benches in the heart of the city not only to promote the classics but to inspire creativity.
The unique architecture encourages people to read, write, and learn.
I would love to see Book Benches pop up all over the world.
It’s definitely better than a normal bench.
Hopefully these photos inspire other cities to take standard elements of the city to another level. There are ways to inspire and invoke creativity all around us. We just need to unlock it and see the potential in every day things.
